Kipling's Choice

Genre: Teen Fiction, adventure

Kipling’s Choice is a fairly good book, if you’re into the war genre. It was first published in Belgium in 2002 by Averbode, and then it was translated into English by Terese Edelstein in 2005. The book has 147 pages not including the Epilogue. The story is about a man named John Kipling, and it follows his life leading up to World War 1 and then continues while he’s in it. One of the things I didn’t like about the book is that it would keep switching time periods from his life currently in the war, to back when he was a kid. It would get confusing at times. Other than that the story line is good, it starts off as John while he was young, he was a rich kid and got everything he wanted, then he wanted to join the military but his eyesight was so poor, just like his fathers, so his father had to pull all the strings he could so that John wouldn’t end up like him and not be able to join. Later on he became a high ranking officer and would lead a squad. Out of 5 I would have to rate the book a 3, it would be higher but since the time period would keep changing, and it got confusing it dropped down to a 3. Another reason it’s only a 3 is because the ending isn’t the greatest. I would recommend this book if you enjoy war type books.
