Theme assignment
Purpose: To create a theme for the PHS yearbook.
1. As a class, look at past yearbooks, and discuss current trends within the school. What are the current social attitudes, fashions, and popular culture influences that exist at the school?
2. Form a group of 3 to 4. Within this group you will arrive at a theme statement based on the findings of the above discussion (see #1), then use Photoshop and inDesign to create:
- a mock cover and endsheets
- a folio tab
- 3 (three) different divider pages of your choice
- a theme page (usually found near the beginning of the book)
- a special page of your choosing (something that has not been done in yearbook, and that relates to your theme)
3. This work must be accompanied by a two-page report which explains each of the elements listed above, as well as your rationale for choosing them. The report should include headlines for each section (ie. Cover, Folio tabs, Dividers) and be typewritten in full sentence form. Marks given for spelling/mechanics, content, and the completeness of your responses.
4. Prepare to present your work to the class. You will use the data projector to display your work in a 10 (ten) minute presentation to the class. Remember, you are trying to sell your theme as the winning design for the yearbook. Be excited, informative and persuasive!
