This story is about an 18 year old sleuth who is trying to solve her first mystery. She wants to help the relatives of a recently deceased Josiah Crawley who said they were to have some if his properties in his will. Will she be able to help them?
The story starts out when a little girl almost gets hit by a speeding moving van and takes a nasty fall off a bridge. Nancy helps her to her home and learns that the moving truck took some of their valuables. The older Hoover sisters that are looking after the little girl are very poor. Nancy also learns they are the relatives of the deceased Josiah Crawley and that they were suppose to get some of his money. But he actually left all his money to the Topham’s, the family he stayed with until he died. Later on she also learns that there were more relatives promised some of the fortune. Most of them believe there is a later will that the one that the Tophams have. Nancy is on the case. She goes to talk about the case with some of Mr. Crawley’s relatives. At Abby Rowen’s house she learns that Josiah may have left a clue in an old clock with a crescent moon on it. But it was left to the Topham family. She meets up with her friend Helen Corning. She is trying to sell tickets so she can go to her aunt’s camp on Moon Lake. Nancy has an idea. She takes the tickets so her friend can leave. She goes to the Topham’s house to sell the tickets. She learns that it is in their summer home on Moon Lake! She rushes to her friend’s camp. After two days of camp activities she goes to see the summer home. She spots a moving truck at the front. She goes up to the house and the door is open and the caregiver is nowhere in sight. Suddenly she hears a voice coming in the house so she hides in a closet that is dusty. The “Movers” also stole the valuables from the Hoovers! While the thieves were in the room, Nancy accidentally sneezed! The thieves caught her and locked her in the closet. She gets saved by the caregiver and rushes to the police. She then goes after the “Movers”. She finds them in a diner so she sneaks in the moving van and obtains the clock! She opens it and finds what she thinks will be a clue! Will she find a later will or is she totally wrong? Find out in “Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock!”
I loved this book! Some parts I felt like I was Nancy and I was solving the mystery. I tried to solve it while reading the book and I couldn’t do it. This book is well written and I would recommend it to girls from 9-15!
